The Different Parts of a Webpage

Here are some other things that you need to remember about templates. The template must be search engine friendly, and your template should match your personal taste. Finally, it’s a good idea to learn the different sections of the template as well.

Header
The header is at the very top of your template. The header provides the name of your Website, the tagline, and the logo.

While the header must be eye catching, it can't distract the reader from reading the rest of the site either. Also, you need to be careful when it comes to putting ad banners in header. You don't want ad banners to completely distract people from your website's content. However, if you want to make money from your Website, people need to clearly see these banners. Finally, when it comes to headers, you need to decide whether if you want a header image, text only, or both. A header image will make your Website more visually appealing. However, if you use text only for your header, your Website will load up faster.

Navigation Menu
The navigation system must be one of the first things your viewers see. For some websites, the navigation system is at the footer. Also, your navigation must be neat and tidy.

I remember being on this one website where the navigation system was all over the place. On the site, you have a navigation menu on the left side of the page, and then you have another navigation system somewhere in the middle of the main page. This made the navigation on the website very difficult. Speaking of which, the navigation system consisted of buttons. Buttons on a website is not only distracting, but it screams 1990's.

Also, when it comes to the navigation system, or any links placed on your website for that matter, test your links. One thing you don’t want on your website is a broken link. Clicking a broken link on a website drives me crazy.

Body/Content
The body contains the content of each page. The body of your site should be the main focus. For every page of your site, the header, the navigation system, and the footer should be the same. Here are some tips when writing content for each page.

First off, write your content. Once you've done writing, leave the content alone for at least a half a day before you proofread. From my experience, if I read the same block of text over and over, I get used to reading it. Therefore, it becomes easier and easier to overlook mistakes. Once you’re done proofreading your article, then try to get somebody else to proofread your work if you can.

The second piece of advice that I have for writing web content is to make your article interesting.
My final tip to writing content on a website is to write at an appropriate level. For example, don't use big words if you're developing a website for kids.

The Footer
The footer is at the bottom of the site. It may contain information about the website such as copyright information. For some websites, the footer contains navigation links and ad banners. If your Website has a donation button, the footer may be a good place to put it.
